quirk visits new york city
Last Saturday two of my favorite ladies from my favorite gallery (QUIRK!) in Richmond came to New York for the Gift Show happening all week. They come twice a year but this was the first time I actually lived here while they were in town. The first night Katie and Diana stayed with me and it was interesting fitting a full size air mattress in my little Brooklyn bedroom. The rest of the time Katie stayed with my new friends Lawson and Byron in their beautiful upper West Side apartment!

I should probably say something about our awesome adventure we had Tuesday afternoon. I went to work and Jason and I were handing out our mini IHNY session cards in Times Square, I was approached by a girl in a blue and yellow jacket asking if I wanted to go to the David Letterman taping that afternoon. I told her I didn’t want to go wait in line for lottery tickets or whatever and she said that these were real-with-seats-tickets. So I called Diana and Katie (who were at the Gift Show, because they really did come to NY for work) and asked if they’d want to skip out and go to this. Of course they said yes. They met me at the Ed Sullivan theater where we found out Bill Murray would be the guest and they were celebrating David Letterman’s 30th show anniversary all week. We picked up the tickets and came back an hour later and were seating right in front of the band. The theater was bigger than I expected and the band is actually really good, they play between each segment. In the opening monologue Dave kept going on and on about how Brad Pitt has never been on the show and he had an envelope of cash for him if he came. The whole time I kept thinking what if Brad Pitt is here too! Didn’t show up, I’m guessing he was on the following day. Bill Murray was weird, as always, but awesome and funny and set a cupcake on fire. It turned out to be a really fun, very New York afternoon and I’m glad I got to experience it with Diana and Katie. They kept thanking me even though all I did was go to work!

My friend Talia came into the studio to work with me today. She works from home so sometimes she likes to change up the scenery. Since it’s so nice today she suggested an afternoon walk up on the High Line.

I’m so excited about this year. Like I can’t even really explain it.
I’m in a new city, one of the best cities in the world. I have an awesome new job. The perks of this new job are showing up everyday. I have five weddings booked so far. Brooklyn, Boston, Puerto Rico and Richmond. I’m going to Las Vegas and Spain in the next two months. I mean the travel alone is already beyond what I’ve done in years.
All that being said I definitely have some things in mind I’d like to work on (professional and personal):
– get more creative with shooting styles
– perfect an editing style
– use more off camera lighting
– help others with their photography skills
– make the studio I’m working at one of the best in NYC
– get even more organized (and keep my room clean!)
– publication in print/online
– involve myself in NYC activities and events (so I can meet more people!)
– cook!
– make time for personal photography projects and actually get film developed

Kelsey + Raymond visit NYC
Kelsey and Raymond visited from Richmond this weekend. It’s nice when friends visit because it definitely forces me to go out and see new things in the city. We ate at Shopsin’s in the Essex Street Market Sunday morning and I had blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes. Holy yum. Apparently there’s a documentary about this restaurant on Netflix I need to see.
I’m going back and forth on using the blog collage from earlier posts or posting pictures like this. I’m not a big fan of blogs that post tons and tons of pictures that take forever to load… which do you like better?

On the drive down to Richmond a couple weekends ago as we were driving down 301 I asked these two if they’d want to pull over for an impromptu photo shoot. Some days you just can’t resist a green field, a cute couple and a beautiful sunset.

Last weekend was so busy. Went to Richmond and did three shoots. Lauren and Phil’s engagement (coming soon!), Quirk Gallery event with Michael-Birch and some family photos of the Miller’s. Beckett was the little guy I used to nanny for. It was great to see them and his little sister Riley wouldn’t stop smiling for pictures which was awesome!

Daniel and I went and saw the Christmas sights of New York this evening. I haven’t been up to Rockefeller Center since high school so that was fun. I also haven’t just enjoyed the New York sights since getting here. I keep forgetting what an awesome and gigantic place this city is.
