A lot of you already saw the other version of this video with the Male Bonding song, but I really wanted to use this song. So I had to tweak it a bit. Yay summer!

It’s been a busy summer. But this was 4th of July and we had a pretty great time.
inching closer to springtime…
Finally got some nice, not quite springtime, but getting warmer type of weather this weekend. In fact I didn’t put my winter coat on once this weekend.
Saturday night there was a Jersey Shore party at Cous Cous. It was a birthday party, but mostly a reason for all the boys to put earrings back in those earlobes from when they were pierced long ago and the girls to show lots of cleavage. Oh and for everyone to get a nice fake tan in February.
As I was editing the photos last night I kept thinking I must have had some sort of vivid coloring filter set on my camera, then I realized no everyone was just really orange. I was impressed with the level of outfits and I am now the proud owner of a pair of white platform flip flops which are safely in the back of my closet.

One of the cast members from the actual show happened to be in Richmond that night at some event down the street. Despite all of our tweets directed towards him he never showed. We had fun with our house music, Jager bombs, and orange skin without him!
Sunday afternoon was a pretty epic brunch at Helen’s. Although dinner_crue is quickly outgrowing most Richmond restaurants.

(we miss you Ian!)
Brittany, Hunter and I ventured into Maymont after brunch and Hunter brought her crazy Marie Antoinette wig. I was able to get some pretty photos of the girls even with the strange looks from passerby.

If you haven’t downloaded the mix from last week do it! Kevin from U or R’s radio station left a comment saying he was going to play it. (is that legal? is what I did even legal?) How he found it and me I have no idea, but take that internet celebrity Phil!

Blizzard number 3 came this weekend and we finally decided to go play in it. I’m sure glad we did.

I think I’m getting the hang of this video thing a bit more.
Quelfing
So, who here has played the party/board game Quelf?
We decided to break this game out on Tuesday for our traditional taco night. After a few beers and a belly full of tacos, this game took on a life of its own. The goal of the game? To make you do as many ridiculous and embarrassing things as humanly possible.
Observe:
- Bill and I have been instructed to make sculptures of a cobra snake out of pieces of paper – to be judged by the game players. I lost and was called an “ad man”.
- Dave (in the white button-up) has been instructed that he’s not allowed to stop laughing until his next turn, which took a solid 15 minutes.
- Karen has been instructed that she must keep her left hand submerged in a bowl of water until her next turn which also took about 15 minutes.
- Bill has been instructed to insert the word “bleeping” randomly into his sentences.
This is definitely the weirdest game I have ever played.
I agree with Phil, it’s weird but oh so fun. If you would like to see more videos, including one of Ian and Bill playing patty cake and the “wine down” incident please go here. Also anyone up for game night?
The Masquerade Ball
This past weekend was the big birthday Masquerade ball at Cous Cous. It was so amazing. For one Cous Cous really went above and beyond, giving us free champagne, letting Robot E. Lee DJ for us, letting us play a movie we wanted, generally just being awesome for us. I really do appreciate this and mostly just solidified my love for that place. All of our friends came out and everyone really got into the whole mask thing. By the day of the party Premiere Costumes in Carytown was familiar with the “birthday party” and we’re asking people coming in if that’s what they were there for. Phil Bowne was also there and captured the night in images, making me wonder if we traveled to a distant romantical land.

For the full set go here. (You will need a Facebook account, I’ll see if Phil can post them somewhere else as well.)
Thank you to everyone who came out and partied with us, I can’t express how much I love you guys.
Long winded
I’m a bad blog owner. I accept this and want to better myself.
But this past month has been pretty great so that’s my excuse.
This will probably be a long post so be prepared.
Let’s go back a couple weekends ago to Saturday, October 24th. The Maryland Renaissance (btw without spell check I could never spell this word) Faire in Annapolis. Brittany had brought up the idea weeks prior for all us to go one evening over #tacos. Later that same evening she tweeted about going to the #RENNFAIRE09 and @stupidbillchubb replied with:

A great response. And of course she was serious.
Fast forward to the weekend of the #RENNFAIRE09 (our Twitter hashtag of course) and the people that were definitely in our trip were, Brittany, Bill, Diana, Ian, and myself. We even rented a car for the trip! 2010 Dodge Charger so lovingly nicknamed our “noble steed.”
Besides Brittany I don’t think any of us really expected the high quality of this festival. All day there was a threat of rain, so it was a pretty overcast cloudy day. I’m still very glad I put on some boots. After going through the front gate on “our way to merriment” Ian actually had to sit down for a second. Yes it was that overwhelming. It was like going to a miniature theme park. Actual structures were built over acres and acres of land for this festival that apparently has been going on for 30+ years.
We wandered in and out shops for awhile, gawked at the actual amount of people in full Renn wear (and other assorted costuming) and of course started off with a glass of mead, which the bees seemed to really want and wouldn’t stop following us until it was gone.
Some of the highlights:

Ian and Diana on an elephant

Brittany and I in the stocks

Turkey Legs

The Joust

It poured rain so we upped the level of mead slinging
In short the day was amazing and I pretty much can’t wait until next year. The plan is definitely to dress up, but I will not be a wench, #boobfaire10 isn’t something I’m real interested in participating in.
A week later Halloween happened. I didn’t think about this before but October has been a lot of costumes.
The Friday night before Halloween we all went to Michael-Birch and Nicole’s costume party. It was pretty awesome when Eric told our friend Colin about his surprise trip to Hawaii. They left yesterday and they are touring the LOST television show set on Friday. Apparently signing confidentiality contracts are part of the deal for the tour, which sounds pretty exciting to me!
Saturday, the 31st (not the 26th or 27th), was a pretty crazy/fun/awesome filled day. Hunter was in Richmond, she so graciously made the dress for my costume for me. Since both of us were done with putting together costumes our only goal for the day was to make jello shooters for the party that night. Let me just tell you how hard it is to find those little ramekin cups. I ended up having to ask Sticky Rice for a sleeve which they awesomely let me have. 61 jello shooters later we were ready to party.
Everyone did such a great job with their costumes this year. Lots of DIY, but I guess it’s not too surprising coming from all of the creative friends I have. Some highlights from Dave and Kristin’s Halloween party:

Ian as Retired Captain America, Hunter as Patti Mayonnaise and Bill as Ian.

Chris and Trey as Wayne and Garth

Liz as Hannah Montana and Matt as Nick Jonas

Sam as Max Fischer “Rushmore” one of my favorites that night

My cute little roommate Kate as a peacock

EC as Smurfette and Michael-Birch as Cookie Monster

Becki as Magda “Something About Mary”

I as the Morton Salt Girl and Diana as the Twitter Fail Whale

Brittany as the most authentic Flapper of 2009

and of course Phil as “Robot E. Lee”
The jello shooters lasted not long at all, the bars stayed open an extra hour (time change) although we never made it to one because we had an impromptu 9 person dance party upstairs until 4am? 5am? Which then turned into an awesome sleepover with a grand slideshow in the morning of the previous night’s photo reel.
Epic group photo y’all.

As Hunter pointed out it looks like we just got back from a great parachute jump day.
RT I love my friends.

Playground love
What a weekend. Just like I knew it would be. I went up to Hunter’s parents in Fredericksburg Wednesday night and early the next morning they drove Hunter and I up to DC to catch the Bolt Bus. It was very nice of them to do that for us and I highly recommend the Bolt Bus to anyone. It was clean and roomy and our bus driver was hilarious!
We got into NYC around 1pm and went to the open call at American Apparel for Hunter to try and get a job. I don’t think the open call was exactly what she was expecting but at least she was able to get her resume in the company. After that we went and met up with Daniel and he let us go ahead and take his keys to get into his apartment so we could chill for a bit before going out. We ended up going to the Bushwick County Club for awhile, did a photobooth picture and then headed into the city.
The night was a little crazy, we ended up with margaritas to go from some place in Brooklyn and put them in the freezer for the next day.
We all slept in the next morning, before we went out we drank our margaritas after some serious adjusting to the flavor, a little tea a little lemonade good to go! Did a little thrifting where Hunter and I both ended up with awesome boots. The boots I bought need to have the heel replaced but other than that in awesome condition!
Our plan was to head to the High Line Park after that we never made it because we had to head to the Phoenix show uptown in Central Park! We got to the show right around 6pm and when the doors opened we were able to snag a spot really close to the stage. We each bought one $6 beverage and chilled out of ran hour before the show. The two girls in front of us were the shortest girls I’ve seen in awhile, Hunter and I both agreed that we did good and not to let them get away from in front of us. Passion Pit came on at 7pm and man are those dudes adorable. You could tell that they were really excited about this show and how big it was for a fairly new band. They played the songs that I half knew and pretty much just got the crowd excited.
When Phoenix came on everyone was so excited, I kept wondering if it was going to be the same setlist from the June shows. They started with “Lisztomania,” same as the previous shows so I wasn’t sure. It didn’t end up being the same because not only did they play “Fences” they also played a “Playground Love” cover of Air during the encore. I was jumping up and down super excited about it and I think I got some looks from people around me but who cars. It was perfect. Thomas Mars was also wearing a different colored collared shirt! At all three shows in June he was wearing the same light blue colored shirt, this one was dark blue.
The last song of the encore was “1901″ and boy did we plant ourselves in our spot perfectly because Thomas Mars came out into the crowd like he did during the previous shows. I didn’t think it would happen at this show because there was a barrier between the crowd and the stage but he hopped right over it and came right into the area we were. DEF got to sing a bit of “1901″ while grabbing at his arm as he made his way further behind us. He got up on someone’s shoulders (a security guard?) and during that time there was a red cord up against me, I thought it was someone’s bag or something until I realized it was the MICROPHONE CORD! After the whole singing in the crowd thing didn’t really work out he was making his way back towards the stage. Hunter managed to snap an amazing photo of him almost caught up in the cord and I loved how excited she was at that moment as I was.
The show was awesome and it was so much fun to see them in the city like that. I’ve never loved a band as much as I love them and I honestly hope to see them again in the future. Although for now it’s probably enough.
After the show we made our way back to Daniel’s apartment where we finally ended up going to get pizza in Brooklyn, a gay bar in the East Village where my friend Kathryn was and finally the Beauty Bar on 14th Street. We had to catch the bus early the next morning and definitely did some sleeping on it.
Pretty much as soon as I made it back to Richmond I headed out to Travis and Carley’s wedding in the West End. Even though it ended up being a rainy night (that’s good luck right?) it was a very heartfelt ceremony and everything looked great. Carley’s dress and hairpiece was perfectly her as was just about every other aspect of the wedding.

I wish all the luck to Travis and Carley in the future they seem so happy together and man do I hope to find something like that.
On Sunday Brittany, Hunter, Kelsey and I traveled down 64 East to spend an afternoon in Colonial Williamsburg. An afternoon of colonial gentlemen, colonial hats, Ye Olde Cheese Shoppes, heckling William and Mary boys, and $2 dollar wheat beers is always a great way to end an awesome weekend.
